The Apothecary

Transparency Defined: The difference

Built With Intention: What Sets Ash & Evermore Apart

In a world where handmade soap has become increasingly popular, not all bars are created with the same philosophy.

At Ash & Evermore, we believe that what goes into a bar matters just as much as what it looks like when it’s finished. Behind every design, every scent, and every name is a commitment to authenticity—both in formulation and in craft.

This is where we differ.

🧪 True Soapmaking vs. Melt & Pour

There are many ways to create soap, but not all methods are the same.

Some makers use what is known as melt and pour—a pre-made soap base that is melted down, colored, fragranced, and poured into molds. It is a valid craft, but the formulation itself is already complete before the maker ever touches it.

At Ash & Evermore, we do not use melt and pour.

Every bar we create begins from raw oils and lye, going through the full process of saponification. This allows us complete control over the formulation—how the bar feels, how it lathers, how it lasts, and how it performs on the skin.

We are not simply shaping soap.

We are building it from the ground up.

🌿 Ingredient Integrity

One of the most overlooked differences in artisan soap lies in how ingredients are used—and how they are presented.

It is not uncommon to see soaps marketed around premium ingredients such as tallow, butters, or specialty oils… while those ingredients are only included in very small percentages. Just enough to be listed. Just enough to be part of the story.

We take a different approach.

At Ash & Evermore, we do not include ingredients for the sake of marketing. We include them because they are essential to the structure and performance of the bar.

If it’s listed—it matters.

🖤 Built Around Tallow, Not Decorated With It

Tallow is one of the defining ingredients in our formulations.

Not as an afterthought.
Not as a minor addition.
But as a foundation.

Our base recipes are built with 30% or more tallow, forming the backbone of the bar. This is what gives our soap its:

Hardness and longevity

Creamy, stable lather

Skin-compatible conditioning feel

We don’t “feature” tallow.

We build around it.

The same philosophy extends to every oil and butter we use. Each ingredient plays a real role in the final product—contributing to performance, not just label appeal.

🔥 Formulation Over Hype

It is easy to create something that looks good.

It is much harder to create something that performs beautifully from the first use to the last.

Our focus has always been on balance:

Cleansing without stripping

Conditioning without heaviness

Longevity without compromise

This comes from understanding the chemistry behind soap—not just the aesthetics.

Every bar is formulated with intention, not assembled for appearance alone.

🕯️ Small Batch, Full Control

Because we make our soap from scratch, we maintain complete control over every batch.

We are not limited by pre-made bases.
We are not confined to preset formulations.

This allows us to:

Adjust and refine recipes

Match ingredients to scent profiles

Create soaps that are both visually striking and functionally superior

And because we work in small batches, every pour receives the attention it deserves.

⚖️ Transparency Without Illusion

We believe that customers deserve clarity.

If an ingredient is present, it should serve a purpose.
If a soap is marketed a certain way, it should reflect the truth of its formulation.

We don’t rely on trends or inflated claims.

We rely on craftsmanship.

🌑 The Difference You Can Feel

At the end of the day, the difference is not just in how our soaps are made—

It is in how they are experienced.

The way they lather.
The way they last.
The way they leave the skin feeling afterward.

These are not accidents. They are the result of intentional formulation, real ingredients, and a refusal to cut corners.

🖤 Our Standard

We don’t create for shortcuts.
We don’t create for appearances alone.

We create with purpose.

Every oil matters.
Every percentage matters.
Every batch reflects the same standard.

Because at Ash & Evermore, we don’t just make soap—

We build it.

Behind the pour: Where science become ritual

Behind the Pour: Where Science Becomes Ritual

At Ash & Evermore, every bar begins long before it is ever poured into a mold.

It begins with an idea. A mood. A story waiting to take shape.

But soapmaking is not only art. It is chemistry, timing, temperature, texture, and transformation. It is one of the rare crafts where beauty and science are inseparable—where something practical can also become atmospheric, expressive, and deeply personal.

This is the story behind the pour.

It Begins with Intention

Before a single ingredient is measured, there is a vision.

Some soaps begin with scent. Others begin with color, texture, or the feeling we want the bar to hold. A storm-dark coastline. A green hollow deep in the woods. A bloom pulled gently into shadow. Every detail is considered before the process begins, because handmade soap is never just assembled—it is composed.

Once the story is clear, the materials are chosen to support it. Oils are selected for the qualities they bring to the final bar: hardness, lather, longevity, conditioning, and feel on the skin. Milks, botanicals, clays, colorants, and fragrance are chosen not only for beauty, but for how they behave within the chemistry of the batch.

The Foundation of the Craft

Soapmaking begins with oils and lye, but what happens between them is where the science lives.

When these elements come together correctly, they go through a chemical reaction called saponification. This is the transformation that turns raw fats and oils into soap. It is precise, and it demands respect. Temperatures matter. Timing matters. Fragrance behavior matters. Even the way a batter thickens can change the design, texture, and finish of the final bar.

This is why artisan soapmaking is both technical and intuitive. You are working with chemistry in real time, but also reading the batch as it moves—watching for the moment when fluid becomes emulsion, when emulsion becomes trace, and when the design must be poured before the window closes.

It is controlled, but never lifeless.

The Process, Step by Step

The first stage is preparation.

Tools are set out. Molds are lined. Colorants are dispersed. Fragrance is prepared. Every step is planned in advance because once the process begins, things move quickly.

The oils are melted and blended until they form a smooth base. Separately, the lye solution is prepared with care and allowed to cool as needed. If milk is being used, it is handled intentionally to preserve its character and to keep the batch stable.

Once both components are ready, they are brought together.

This is the turning point.

The lye solution is blended into the oils, and slowly the mixture begins to change. At first it is thin and fluid. Then it thickens into a silky batter. This stage is called trace—the moment when the soap has emulsified enough to hold shape, color, and fragrance, but is still fluid enough to design.

From here, the art begins.

The batter may be divided into portions for multiple colors. Fragrance is folded in. Layers may be poured. Swirls may be created. Textured tops may be shaped by hand. Botanicals or mineral accents may be added. Every movement matters, because the soap continues changing even as it is being designed.

Then it is poured into the mold.

At this stage, the outside looks finished—but inside, the transformation is still unfolding.

The soap rests, warms, and continues saponifying. Over time, it becomes firm enough to unmold and cut. But even then, it is not truly ready. Artisan cold process soap must cure. During this time, excess water evaporates, the bar hardens, and the lather and longevity improve. The cure is not a delay. It is part of the craft.

A finished bar is not rushed. It is allowed to become what it was meant to be.

Why Handmade Soap Is Different

Store-bought soap and artisan soap are not the same experience.

Many commercial bars are made for speed, shelf stability, and cost efficiency. They are often produced on a mass scale with synthetic detergents, hardening agents, and fillers designed to create uniformity. They may cleanse, but they are typically built for manufacturing convenience first.

Handmade soap is different.

It is formulated with intention. The oils themselves are part of the final experience. The structure of the bar, the richness of the lather, the way it rinses, the way it leaves the skin feeling afterward—these qualities come from the formulation itself, not from a factory shortcut.

Artisan soap also carries something store-bought soap cannot: variation, character, and handcraft. No two pours are exactly identical. No batch is completely without personality. That is part of what makes it beautiful. It is not stamped out to be sterile. It is made to feel alive.

Cold Process vs. Hot Process Soap

Both cold process and hot process soap begin with the same essential chemistry: oils and lye coming together through saponification. But the path they take is different.

Cold process soap is made by blending the ingredients and pouring the soap into the mold while saponification is still underway. The bar then finishes that process over time and continues curing for several weeks. This method allows for more detailed design work—swirls, layers, sculpted tops, and refined visual finishes. It often creates a smoother, more polished look and gives the maker greater control over aesthetics.

For brands like Ash & Evermore, cold process is part of what allows each bar to feel elevated, atmospheric, and artful. It gives the story a visible form.

Hot process soap, on the other hand, is cooked after the ingredients are combined. This accelerates saponification and creates a more rustic texture. Because the soap is further along chemically before it is molded, it can often be used sooner than cold process soap. It is a practical and beloved method in its own right, but it generally has a rougher, more organic appearance and offers less flexibility for intricate designs.

In simple terms:

Cold process is slower, smoother, and more design-driven.
Hot process is faster, more rustic, and more utilitarian in appearance.

Both are true soap. But they offer different experiences, both for the maker and for the person using the final bar.

The Beauty of the Process

Soapmaking asks for patience.

You cannot force a batter to behave if the fragrance accelerates. You cannot rush a cure and expect the same finish. You cannot treat it like a factory line and still keep the soul of the work intact.

That is what makes the craft so meaningful.

It is science, yes—but it is also listening. Watching. Adapting. Knowing when to move and when to wait. Knowing when a design should be refined, and when it should be allowed to remain wild.

Every finished bar holds all of that inside it.

The chemistry.
The timing.
The hand of the maker.
The vision that came before the pour.

More Than a Product

At its heart, handmade soap is transformation made visible.

Raw ingredients become something cleansing, beautiful, and lasting. Function becomes ritual. Science becomes art.

That is what happens behind the pour.

And that is what makes artisan soap more than something you simply use.

It becomes something you experience.

The Story behind each Soap

The Meaning Behind Our Soaps: Stories Carved in Scent and Shadow

At Ash & Evermore, every bar begins as more than a formula.

Before the oils are measured…
Before the lye is mixed…
Before color ever touches the mold…

There is a story.

Each soap is an interpretation of something deeper—myth, memory, emotion, or place. They are not just scents. They are moments, captured and held.

🌸 Persephone — The Bloom Beneath the Earth

She is not only the goddess of spring.

She is the queen of the underworld.

Persephone exists between two worlds—light and dark, bloom and decay. Her story is one of duality. Of descent, transformation, and return.

Our Persephone bar reflects that balance.

Soft, creamy notes wrap around a deeper, grounding warmth—like petals resting on rich, dark soil. It is delicate, but never fragile. Feminine, but rooted in strength.

This is a scent for those who understand that beauty is not just in the light—but in what grows beneath it.

🔥 Ash & Embers — What Remains After the Fire

There is a moment after the flame fades.

When the fire is gone…
But the heat still lingers.

Ash & Embers lives in that moment.

It is the quiet aftermath. The slow glow of coals. The warmth that remains when everything else has burned away.

Smoky, deep, and slightly sweet, this bar carries the feeling of resilience. Of endurance. Of something that has been through fire—and still holds its strength.

Not destruction.
Transformation.

🌊 Mourning Tide — The Weight of Quiet Waters

There is a certain stillness that comes with grief.

Not loud. Not chaotic.
But soft. Heavy. Endless.

Mourning Tide is inspired by the ocean in its quietest form—the slow pull of waves against the shore, the rhythm that continues long after the storm has passed.

Lavender drifts through it like a calm breath, while deeper notes anchor it—like sand beneath your feet.

This is a soap for stillness.
For reflection.
For the moments when you need the world to slow down.

🌿 Jade Hollow — Where the Forest Keeps Its Secrets

Deep within the woods, there are places untouched.

Where light filters through slowly…
Where the air is cool, green, and alive…
Where time feels different.

Jade Hollow is that place.

Fresh botanicals and earthy undertones come together to create something grounding, almost ancient. It feels like moss beneath your feet, stone beneath your hand, and the quiet presence of something older than you.

This is not just freshness.

It is depth.
It is stillness.
It is the forest, holding its secrets.

🍉 Midnight Meloncholy — Sweetness Touched by Shadow

At first, it feels bright.

Juicy. Fresh. Familiar.

But there’s something else beneath it.

Midnight Meloncholy takes something playful—a ripe summer fruit—and pulls it into shadow. The sweetness remains, but it is softened, deepened, made more complex.

It is nostalgia, but with distance.
Joy, but with a quiet edge.

This bar captures the feeling of summer fading into night—when the air cools, the light dims, and everything feels just a little more reflective.

🖤 More Than Scent

Each bar is a story.

A feeling.
A place.
A moment held in form.

We don’t create to simply replicate what’s been done before.
We create to capture something that can’t quite be explained—only experienced.

This is the heart of Ash & Evermore.

Not just what you smell—
but what you feel.

The story behind Ash & Evermore

Ash & Evermore: A Story of Ash, Bloom, and Becoming

Ash & Evermore was not born overnight.

It was built quietly—over time, through long hours, learned skill, and a growing desire for something more.

For years, we worked within the world of chemicals and surfactants. We understood formulations, raw materials, and how products were engineered behind the scenes. We knew what made something effective—and what made something forgettable.

But knowledge alone wasn’t enough.

There came a point where the routine began to wear thin. Endless hours spent building something for someone else. Creating, refining, improving—yet never truly owning what was being made.

And eventually, a question surfaced:

What if we built something of our own?

From Function to Craft

Soap was the natural beginning.

It lives at the intersection of science and artistry—where formulation meets intention. Where raw ingredients transform into something both functional and deeply personal.

With our background, we understood how to create a bar that performs—balanced, stable, and skin-loving.

But Ash & Evermore was never meant to be just another soap company.

It became something more.

The Birth of Ash & Evermore

The name itself holds meaning.

Ash — what remains after fire. The end of something. The quiet aftermath.
Evermore — what continues. What endures. What begins again.

Together, they represent transformation.

Not just in the physical sense—but in life, in growth, in the choice to start over and build something new.

This duality lives in everything we create:

Dark and light

Strength and softness

Earth and flame

A Different Kind of Creation

We didn’t want to mass produce.

We didn’t want to endlessly repeat the same thing over and over.

Ash & Evermore was built on the idea that what we create should feel intentional, limited, and meaningful.

Each batch is made in small quantities.
Each design is crafted with purpose.
Each fragrance is chosen to evoke something deeper than just scent.

Many of our soaps are released as limited runs—once they’re gone, they may never return in the same form again.

Because not everything should be permanent.

Some things are meant to be experienced in a moment.

Rooted in Knowledge, Guided by Passion

Our foundation in the chemical and surfactant field gave us the ability to formulate with precision.

We know what makes a bar hard, what makes it gentle, what makes it last.

But it’s passion that shapes what those formulas become.

Every ingredient is chosen with care.
Every batch is poured with intention.
Every bar reflects both science and soul.

Building Something That Lasts

Ash & Evermore is more than a brand.

It is a shift—from working endlessly for something external, to creating something that is truly our own.

Something slower.
Something intentional.
Something lasting.

Not mass-produced, but carefully made.
Not rushed, but refined.

The Meaning Behind It All

There is something powerful in choosing to begin again.

To take what you know.
To take what you’ve learned.
And to turn it into something that reflects who you are.

Ash & Evermore exists in that space—

Between what was,
and what continues.

Between ash,
and bloom.

Soap Care

The Ritual of Preservation: How to Make Your Soap Last

At Ash & Evermore, each bar is crafted with intention.

Poured, cured, and finished by hand—every detail is considered. But the life of your soap does not end when it leaves our hands. It continues with you, in the quiet rituals of daily use.

To preserve both its beauty and performance, care is essential.

Keep It Elevated

Soap, by nature, is meant to cleanse—but it is not meant to sit in water.

After each use, place your bar on a well-draining soap dish that allows airflow on all sides. This prevents excess moisture from softening the bar and extends its life significantly.

Standing water is the fastest way to shorten a bar’s lifespan. Elevation is everything.

Let It Breathe

Between uses, your soap should be allowed to dry completely.

Our bars are cured for durability, but like all artisan soaps, they benefit from rest. Proper drying keeps the bar firm, preserves the structure, and maintains a rich, consistent lather over time.

Think of it as part of the ritual—use, cleanse, and allow it to return to form.

Use with Intention

Rather than holding the bar directly under running water, allow it to briefly wet, then build lather in your hands or on a cloth.

This small shift prevents unnecessary erosion and helps your bar last far longer without sacrificing the experience.

A little restraint preserves the indulgence.

Rotate Your Bars

If you have more than one bar, consider rotating them.

Using multiple soaps allows each bar time to fully dry between uses, dramatically increasing longevity while also giving you the freedom to match your scent to your mood.

A different ritual, each day.

Cut for Longevity

For those who wish to extend the life even further, cutting your bar in half can make a noticeable difference.

A smaller piece is easier to manage, dries more quickly, and reduces overall waste—while the remaining portion stays preserved until you’re ready.

Store with Care

Unused bars should be kept in a cool, dry place, away from humidity and direct sunlight.

Proper storage not only protects the integrity of the soap but allows it to continue curing over time—resulting in an even harder, longer-lasting bar.

A Living Object

Unlike mass-produced alternatives, artisan soap is alive in its own way.

It responds to water, air, and time.

When cared for properly, your bar will reward you with a longer life, a richer lather, and a more refined experience from first use to last.

The Final Moment

There is something quiet and beautiful about the final use of a bar—the last trace of scent, the final lather.

With care, that moment arrives slowly.

And that is the intention.

To make each bar not only something you use—
but something you experience, fully.

Ingredients

The Apothecary Within: Why We Choose Every Ingredient with Intention

At Ash & Evermore, soap is never just soap.

It is ritual. It is memory. It is the quiet moment between ash and bloom.

Every bar we create begins not with fragrance or color—but with foundation. The ingredients we choose are not accidental. They are deliberate, time-honored, and crafted to elevate both the experience and the performance of every bar.

The Foundation: Our Oil Blend

Each batch begins with a carefully balanced composition of oils chosen for both their skin-loving properties and the character they bring to the final bar.

Beef Tallow
Rich, traditional, and deeply nourishing, tallow creates a hard, long-lasting bar with a creamy, stable lather. Its composition closely mirrors the structure of our skin, making it exceptionally gentle and conditioning.

Olive Oil
The heart of softness. Olive oil contributes a silky, moisturizing feel and a mild, skin-loving cleanse. It brings a quiet elegance to every bar—subtle, but essential.

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil provides the cleansing power and the lush, fluffy lather that transforms a simple wash into an experience. Carefully balanced, it ensures clarity without harshness.

Palm Oil
Used to enhance hardness and longevity, palm oil helps create a bar that holds its shape and endures over time. It adds structure—an anchor within the blend.

Shea Butter
Luxurious and restorative, shea butter brings a velvety finish to the skin. It softens, protects, and elevates the overall feel of the bar into something unmistakably indulgent.

Avocado Oil
Deeply conditioning and rich in nutrients, avocado oil adds a creamy, skin-softening quality that enhances the overall luxury of the bar. It supports a smooth, hydrated feel after every use.

Pumpkin Seed Oil
Earthy and distinctive, pumpkin seed oil brings a subtle richness and depth to the formulation. Known for its nourishing properties, it contributes to a balanced, conditioning bar with a unique character—perfectly aligned with our darker, apothecary-inspired aesthetic.

The Milk: A Touch of Softness

Select batches are enriched with either goat milk or almond milk, chosen intentionally based on the character of the soap.

Goat Milk
Creamy and rich, goat milk adds a gentle, soothing quality to the lather. It enhances the skin feel, leaving it soft, calm, and comforted.

Almond Milk
Light and delicate, almond milk brings a subtle silkiness and a refined finish. It complements softer, more ethereal scent profiles beautifully.

These additions are never random—they are chosen to harmonize with the fragrance, the mood, and the story each bar is meant to tell.

Small Batch, Always

We do not mass produce.
We do not repeat endlessly.

Each Ash & Evermore creation is poured in small, intentional batches, crafted with attention to detail at every stage—from formulation to finish.

Many of our designs and fragrance blends are limited runs, meaning once a batch is gone, it may never return in the same form again.

This is by design.

We believe in creating pieces that feel discovered, not manufactured. Bars that feel like artifacts—something you were meant to find, not something endlessly restocked.

More Than Soap

Every bar carries a balance:

Strength and softness
Ash and bloom
Earth and flame

This is what defines Ash & Evermore.

Not just what we make—
but how, and why, we make it.
